The first Passover happened long ago in the far-away country of Egypt. A mean and powerful king called Pharaoh ruled Worried that Jewish people would one day fight against him Pharaoh decided these must become his slaves. As slaves worked very hard. Every day from morning until night they hammered dug carried heavy bricks. They built palaces cities without rest. hated being cried asked God for help. chose a man named Moses to lead people. went said “God is not happy with way you treat He wants let leave Egypt go into desert where will be free.” But stamped foot shouted “No I never go!” warned “If do listen God many terrible things plagues come your land.” listen so plagues arrived. First water turned blood. Next frogs and later wild animals ran out homes. Balls hail fell sky bugs locusts ate all Egyptians’ food. Each time new plague began cry “Moses I’ll go. Just stop this horrible plague!” Yet no sooner take away than shout: I’ve changed my mind. Jews stay!” So sent more plagues. Finally as tenth arrived ordered Fearful might again change mind packed quickly. had prepare food allow their dough rise puffy bread. only enough make flat cracker-like bread matzah. hastily tied matzah backs travelled far before commanded army chase after them bring back dashed forward but stopped when reached large sea. sea was too big swim across. Frightened Pharaoh’s men soon reach them prayed miracle occurred. opened up.
